Sarah L. Chagnon M.D.

Trustee

Trustee Since 2021

Dr. Sarah Chagnon joined the board of trustees in 2021 and currently serves on the Education & Research Committee. Dr. Chagnon comes from upstate New York, where she developed her passion for children with disabilities at an early age. From volunteer work to employment as a residential aide at a school for children with multiple disabilities, she was inspired to pursue her medical degree to address the health needs of special populations. Dr. Chagnon graduated from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and furthered her training at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where she completed her residency and fellowship in child neurology and neurodevelopmental disabilities. While at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Dr. Chagnon participated in the Program for Neurodegenerative and Rare Disorders, as well as the Leadership and Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities program. Dr. Chagnon moved to the Tidewater area to join the Children’s Specialty Group and Children’s Hospital of Kings Daughters professional staff in 2015. Since that time she has worked to expand access to neurodevelopmental care for the children of Hampton Roads. She is medical director of the Autism Diagnostic Clinic and the Neurology Director for the Neonatal Brain Institute at CHKD, and cares for patients with a wide range of childhood neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders. She is also involved in academic research pursuits and teaches medical students and residents as an Associate Professor at EVMS, but her primary passion is the daily care she provides to her patients and their families both in the outpatient and acute care settings. On a personal note, Dr. Chagnon and her husband (a local teacher) have two daughters and a rowdy Labrador retriever. After too many years in the cold northeast, they are enjoying exploring all that the Hampton Roads region has to offer.
