AI to Support Learning Differences
In a recent article published in District Administration, “How to Use AI to Support Learning Differences”, the authors address AI as a tool to enhance inclusive education. The piece speaks to AI not as a replacement for teachers, rather as a meaningful way to support learners with diverse needs. In theory and in practice, CBA’s use of AI aligns with this vision.
The author’s write “AI has immense potential to improve instruction, particularly for students with learning differences.” The idea that educators can leverage platforms to craft personalized plans tailored to each student’s needs resonates with our work. At CBA we believe that inclusive teaching is not “one size fits all,” and technology can support the neurodiversity present in our classrooms.
Engaging families and building understanding around AI use in schools is the first step toward adoption. Meaningful use of AI in the classroom involves building trust between administrators and faculty, as well as teachers, students and families. For students with learning differences successful intervention is predicated on the effective partnership between home and school. So, is there a role that AI can play in developing these relationships?
Ultimately, at CBA we believe that:
-
AI when used properly can significantly reduce teacher workloads and expand their ability to differentiate the curriculum.
-
Ongoing professional development around the use of AI for teachers is key to it’s successful use.
-
Regular communication between teachers, students, administrators can be facilitated through AI.
The power of AI to personalize learning for all students is close at hand. Special educators have an opportunity and an obligation to lead the charge.
