  • Black History Month at the Nation’s Oldest African American Museum
In recognition of Black History Month, 5th grade and upper school art students had the opportunity to visit the Hampton University Museum — the nation’s oldest African American museum and one of the oldest museums in Virginia.
Students explored the museum’s rich history and lasting cultural impact through its powerful collection of artifacts and artwork. The group toured murals and public artworks across Hampton University’s campus, with special focus on the work of renowned artist and Hampton alum John Biggers, whose murals reflect themes of resilience, heritage, and community– allowing students to see how art preserves history, amplifies voice, and shapes community.
We’re grateful for opportunities like this that deepen learning beyond the classroom — and we wish our entire community a meaningful Black History Month.
