Dr. Mindy Gumpert received both her master’s degree in education and Ph.D. in Special Education from Old Dominion University. With over 24 years of experience, she has been a dedicated special educator, bringing her expertise to both K-12 and higher education settings. She currently serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Old Dominion University and Virginia Wesleyan University, where she teaches and mentors graduate and undergraduate students preparing to become educators.

Dr. Gumpert is committed to driving meaningful change in special education through her leadership, research, and advocacy. She was honored with the disAbility Impact Award from the disAbility Law Center of Virginia for her work as President of the Virginia Council for Learning Disabilities. Additionally, she received the Community Service Award from Old Dominion University in recognition of her leadership and volunteerism.

As a co-founding member of the Center for Educational Research and Technological Innovation (CERTI), Dr. Gumpert researches the impact of innovative, technology-based interventions and instructional practices utilized at Chesapeake Bay Academy (CBA). In addition, she serves on the CBA Board of Trustees, reinforcing her commitment to supporting students with learning differences and advancing inclusive education.

Dr. Gumpert is passionate about advancing special education through leadership, research, and advocacy. She champions inclusive learning environments and innovative practices that empower educators and students to succeed.

Mindy is a founding member of the Center for Educational Research and Technological Innovation (CERTI) and has served as an invited member on the Education and Research Committee. Mindy and her husband Bart, a local pulmonologist and military veteran, are regular attendees at CBA’s Annual Auction and Gala. CBA is fortunate to have Mindy’s growing commitment to our community.
