CadetNet Virtual Academy Free High-Dosage Tutoring Program for Middle Schoolers
About
Research shows that high-dosage tutoring can help students realize learning gains, build confidence and self-efficacy, and accelerate how they meet developmentally appropriate learning goals. The CadetNet Virtual Academy high-dosage tutoring program, offered by Chesapeake Bay Academy, offers the benefit of high-dosage tutoring in the context of special education.
Students and teachers will engage in small group (3-4 students) sessions two times a week for 30 minutes per session using both videoconferencing and desktop virtual reality (VR), to reinforce math, reading and writing related concepts.
Who, When & How
Thanks to a generous grant from the Hampton Roads Community Foundation, the program will be delivered to 48 middle school (grades 6-8) students at no cost between January 12, 2026 and June 5, 2026. It will include reading or math instruction, twice weekly, over 30-40 minute sessions. Students enrolled in public, private, and even homeschooled students will have access to the program. Those with a demonstrated learning need will be given priority in the application process.
Dates: Monday, January 12th – Friday, June 5th
Students will receive live instruction from licensed teachers in a Google Meet call and actively apply content in VR using the ENGAGE VR platform on a desktop computer.

Elements of Program:
- Available to students grades 6-8
- Instruction 2x per week; 30-40 mins each session
- Small groups; 4 students max
- Live instruction from a licensed professional.
- No cost to participate.
How to Apply
Students must be referred by their, school counselor, SPED case manager, counselor, pediatrician, psychiatrist, educational advocate, SLP, physical therapist, social worker, physician, therapist, or other qualified professional who has knowledge of your child’s learning differences, through the form following below.
