Celebrating 50th Anniversary of IDEA
Dr. Jankowski and incoming Head of School Krishna Rasik Davda attended the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) at the Dirksen Senate Building, hosted by Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana. Senators Chris Van Hollen of Maryland and Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire were also in attendance.
The event commemorated 50 years since President Gerald Ford signed the Education for All Handicapped Children Act (EAHCA) in 1975, which later evolved into the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). These bills guarantee a free and appropriate public education for all children with disabilities.
“IDEA is foundational legislation that established the right for all children, regardless of their educational and socioeconomic challenges, to live the richest and most fulfilling lives possible. Mr. Davda and I were proud to be invited to represent Chesapeake Bay Academy and the support the important work of the Center for Education reform in advocating for school choice and the wide range of educational opportunities that benefit uniquely-abled learners.”    – Dr. Judy Jankowski
