Creative Arts
Music
CBA musicians build community through drumming, singing, and exploring diverse musical traditions. By combining the World Music Drumming curriculum with eclectic approaches to music education (including Dalcroze, Orff, and Kodály methods), students are exposed to West African and African diaspora traditions, as well as the European art tradition, all while fostering social-emotional skills through collaboration and team-building practices.
Each year, our amazing musicians have the opportunity to share their talents during the annual Winter Holiday concert, the Music In Our Schools Concert, the Creatives Arts Festival, Grandfriends Day, and the Lower School Talent Show.
Opportunities include:
• Choir
• World Music Drumming
• Ukulele Ensemble
• Piano lab
• Field trips to share music with local retirement communities
Visual Arts
Our Visual Arts Program empowers students to imagine, create, and explore while expressing their unique vision. Guided by our dedicated art teacher, students build meaningful connections within a supportive community. Central to our program are collaboration, validation, and multiculturalism, forming a “beloved community” that celebrates diverse cultural strengths. We aim to ensure every student feels seen, heard, and valued by incorporating their lived experiences into the curriculum. Focusing on multicultural art education, we expose students to a diverse array of artists and practices throughout history, with an emphasis on contemporary art that reflects the world around them. This approach equips students to transform themselves and society, deepening their understanding of the world and their place in it.
Several art mediums we utilize to convey deeper meaning:
- Drawing
- Painting
- Collage
- Assemblage
- Two-Dimensional Design
- Printmaking
- Abstraction
- Fiber/Textiles
- Ceramics
- Sculpture
- Mixed Media
- Digital Design
