This April, Upper School Literature teacher and accomplished author, Mr. Synnika Lofton, will release his newest book, Dear Young People, a poetry collection written with young readers in mind. Known for his work as a poet, educator, and publisher, Mr. Lofton brings his literary voice into a format that is both accessible and reflective for a younger audience.
An award-winning poet and Pushcart Prize nominee, Mr. Lofton is the author of more than thirty-five poetry collections and over 170 spoken word recordings. His work has appeared in numerous literary journals including Clockhouse, Upstreet, Blue-Collar Review, and Mid-Atlantic Review, among others. He earned both his BA and MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College, grounding his work in a strong foundation of craft and literary study.
Dear Young People continues his tradition of writing that is thoughtful, direct, and rooted in lived experience. As a poetry book, it speaks to readers through concise, expressive language that encourages reflection and self-awareness. The collection centers on the inner world of young people — their questions, emotions, and evolving sense of self — presented in a voice that is both honest and approachable.
We are cheering on Mr. Lofton as he prepares for the release of this newest collection and celebrating another exciting addition to his body of published work.
