  • Event Recap: CBA Artists Featured at A Dream Deferred

Members of our CBA community were proudly represented at A Dream Deferred: Black Excellence, Voice, and Resistance, recently hosted by Virginia Wesleyan University (VWU). The evening brought together spoken word, music, visual art, and student scholarship in a powerful celebration of creativity, identity, and expression.

We were excited to see the artwork of our art teacher, Jazmine Beatty, alongside former counseling intern Whitney Leao featured as part of the visual art showcase. Their pieces contributed to a thoughtful and visually compelling gallery that highlighted storytelling, reflection, and personal voice through art.

The event atmosphere was vibrant and engaging, with attendees moving through performances and exhibits that centered both artistic expression and meaningful dialogue. Ms. Beatty and Whitney’s work stood out as a strong representation of the creativity and perspective within our own school community.

It was wonderful to see their talents shared in a broader public space and to witness how their artwork resonated with viewers throughout the evening. We are so proud to cheer them on and celebrate this exciting moment of artistic recognition beyond the classroom.
