Exploring Blue Crabs
Mr. Foss’ upper school science class got an up-close look at one of our region’s most important species—the blue crab.
Students began by discussing the role blue crabs play in our local ecosystem and the environmental challenges they face. From there, they examined the crab’s external anatomy, identifying key features and how each supports survival in its environment.
The class also explored internal structures, comparing the crab’s organs to human systems and noting both similarities and differences. This hands-on experience helped bring complex biological concepts to life in a clear and engaging way.
The lab sparked thoughtful conversations about ecology, adaptation, and conservation, while giving students a better understanding of a species closely connected to our local waterways.
