  • New Sensory Gym Enhances Social & Emotional Regulation

This state-of-the-art, multi-sensory environment enhances social and emotional learning for all students.
Monday, August 16, 2021

Emotional regulation is difficult for some students under the best of circumstances. For years, students who were challenged by learning in traditional classrooms utilized numerous stress management techniques to better facilitate their learning. With the advent of COVID-19, Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) has moved front and center for all learners.

CBA has specialized in providing multisensory, highly interactive educational experiences for children who learn differently for many years. The Sensory Gym is a natural addition to a program that includes yoga, mindfulness, and regular social pragmatic instruction. Creating this safe and comfortable environment for children still recovering from the stressors of the 2020-21 school year will provide an exceptional setting in which to grow – intellectually, socially, and emotionally.

The sensory gym includes many ways for kids to relax and explore – swings, zip lines, monkey bars, climbing walls, fiber optic lighting, trampolines, jump decks and tunnels made of dry erase boards. The gym fosters independence, enhances social and emotional regulation, and is just plain fun!

“The disruption of the pandemic has caused all kinds of educational challenges for students, particularly for our children who require a differentiated educational experience. Our new sensory gym is an outstanding tool for teachers to use to help our students be better prepared to learn. It’s just one more way that CBA is leading the way in supporting our unique learners”, says CBA Head of School, Judy Jankowski, Ed.D.

The sensory gym is customized to the specific needs of CBA by Fun Factory Sensory Gym, LLC, and is made possible by generous donors and supporters of CBA.
