Outdoor Ed: The History of Mount Trashmore
This week, our middle school outdoor education students visited Mount Trashmore where they began the morning by reading about the Seal of Virginia Beach and its significance to the area. They moved on to reading about the history of Mount Trashmore, including the ecological innovations used to turn the landfill into a public park. They discussed the details of rainwater runoff, methane gas burping, and microplastic collections.
Combining learning with fun, students explored the paths around the park and checked out the newest renovations to the hillside of the Kid’s Cove. What a great opportunity to combine fresh air with new knowledge!
