Walk of Peace: Art, Mindfulness, and Community
Over the past few weeks, art students have been learning about the Walk for Peace, a nationwide mindfulness journey led by Buddhist monks based in Fort Worth, Texas. The monks are currently walking across the country. As part of their learning, students have been tracking the monks’ progress and discussing the walk as a powerful practice of mindfulness and intentionality.
Inspired by artist Luca Fruzzetti’s Walk of Peace, students collaborated to create a floor mural in the art classroom. Fruzzetti’s original 2020 work, which spanned more than three miles, was created in response to the global pandemic. Our school’s mini version, stretching the length of the art room, honors the monks’ current walk, reinforcing art as a meaningful tool for reflection, awareness, and positive change.
Students across all three divisions worked together to paint background colors, add vines, and contribute individual peace symbols. Each mark represents shared care, intention, and a strong sense of community connection.
