  • More Than a Mural: Painting the Heart of CBA

Recently, the CBA community came together, with students, staff, families, and visiting artists collaborating in a shared creative experience centered on the question: What does CBA mean to you? What began as a concept has quickly transformed into a vibrant symbol of collaboration, connection, and school pride. Led by Ms. Beatty, CBA’s art teacher, alongside visiting artist Sarah Richards—an award-winning muralist and Virginia Wesleyan University student—the project has unfolded with energy and enthusiasm.

To ensure the mural was accessible to artists of all ages and experience levels, the process was designed to be user-friendly while allowing for meaningful artistic contribution. At the heart of the mural is a tree design, symbolizing growth, strength, and connection. Inside the branches and trunk, student artwork fills the space—giving the impression that the tree has come to life through the creativity and voices of CBA students. Each contribution adds a unique layer to the story, reflecting the diverse perspectives that make up the CBA community.

For visiting muralist Sarah Richards, the experience has been especially meaningful. This marks her first collaborative mural project, and she described the process as exciting and inspiring. Looking ahead, Sarah hopes to pursue a career in art therapy, noting that collaborative mural work could play an important role in that future path. The project stands as a powerful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together with shared purpose and creativity. More than just a piece of art, the mural represents connection, collaboration, and the collective spirit of CBA.
