Keith H. Bangel (1952 – 2026), CBA Founding Board Member

The Chesapeake Bay Academy family is deeply saddened by the passing of Keith Harrison Bangel. Keith was a founding member and served as CBA’s first Chair of the Board of Trustees.

Many believe that without Keith, Chesapeake Bay Academy would never have existed. He believed that children who learn differently deserved a school built around how they learn. He gave his time, his judgment, and his steady leadership to make that belief real. Every student who has found their footing at CBA is part of his legacy.

Keith brought the same commitment to his profession. He led Bangel, Bangel & Bangel, a respected Hampton Roads law firm his grandfather founded. When he joined the firm, he practiced alongside his father and his uncle. He carried that family tradition of service forward for decades, and the community is better for it. Throughout his legal career, Keith was active in the professional community. He served on the Board of Governors of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association from 1988 to 1995 and was a past president of the Portsmouth Bar Association.

Above all, Keith was a devoted father who cherished his children, Lindsay and Justin. They were a source of tremendous pride and love throughout his life, and his devotion to them was steadfast and enduring.

An avid fisherman, Keith loved spending time on the water. He also shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Rambo, whose companionship brought him great happiness.

Keith is survived by his wife Dale Bangel; his beloved daughter, Lindsay Bangel; and his sister, Karen Bangel. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Justin Bangel. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Dale, his family, colleagues, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Keith’s memory be made to Chesapeake Bay Academy, or to a charity of one’s choice.
