A Path Rooted in Service

For Margaret Meyers, CBA’s Interim Director of Enrollment Management, education has always been rooted in service, connection, and a belief that every child deserves to feel seen and understood. Her career has taken her from parent volunteer to classroom teacher, school leader, and enrollment professional — roles that have each deepened her commitment to children and families.

“My path here wasn’t a straight line, but looking back, I can see the same thread running through every step.

It started simply — volunteering, and then working in my own children’s schools. Even then, before I had any title, I noticed how much it mattered simply to be present for kids and families. That noticing is what sent me back to school in my mid-40s to earn a Master of Arts in Teaching.

While in grad school, I served as a paraprofessional in the same public elementary school my children had attended — and I carried that same instinct with me: watch closely, show up fully, meet each child where they are.

I come from a long line of preachers and teachers. Maybe that’s why I believe education is a form of service — and why lifelong learning is something I’ve always enjoyed.

That belief followed me into the classroom in my first official teaching position at Chesapeake Bay Academy, and later into leadership as Middle School Director, where I could carry that same sense of service on a wider scale — not just for one student, but for a whole community of them. Whether I was helping one child with an assignment or shaping a school’s culture, the goal was the same: help kids feel seen.

That thread continues today in my enrollment management work. Helping families find a place where their kids are finally understood — that’s still the work that matters most to me.

Children know. They know instinctively when the adults around them come from love and compassion rather than judgment, and I’ve watched that recognition change behavior right in front of me. I believe school and work should be joyful places, and I try to bring mindfulness and presence into how I show up here every day.

This community has given me the chance to have a real impact on children and families; in every role I’ve held — and that’s why I’m still here.”

At CBA, stories like Ms. Meyers are part of what makes our community what it is. Every person who joins our school brings a unique path, perspective, and reason for being here, and those stories become part of the fabric of the work we do together. Her story is one example of the many ways our community is shaped by the people who choose to show up for our students and families each day.
