The CBA Family Association: A Place for Every Family

At Chesapeake Bay Academy, students thrive because we know them, understand them, and value them. We believe families should feel that same sense of belonging.

The CBA Family Association brings together families from across the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools to build relationships, support our school community, and strengthen the connection between home and school.

Students notice how the adults in their lives show up for one another. When parents, grandparents, and caregivers welcome a new family, lend a hand, or serve alongside students, they make care, cooperation, and shared responsibility visible. These contributions also show our faculty and staff that families value their work and share their commitment to helping students who learn differently thrive.

Every CBA family is part of this community. Whether you have an hour to give, a skill to share, an idea to contribute, or simply want to get to know other families, there’s a place for you.

Our Mission
To build a welcoming, inclusive, and connected school community where every family feels they belong. Through Community & Events, Volunteerism & Hospitality, and Citizenship & Service, we strengthen relationships, support CBA’s mission, and create opportunities to contribute within our school and beyond.

Three Ways to Get Involved

1. Community & Events
Help students and families get to know one another.
This team creates opportunities to gather, have fun, celebrate traditions, and build connections across grades and divisions.
Projects might include:

  • Family Nights
  • Spring Carnival
  • Fall Fun Run
  • Spirit Wear

Enjoy planning, decorating, or bringing people together? There’s room for your creativity. You can help with food, activities, setup, or one small part of an event—no need to take on the whole project.

2. Volunteerism & Hospitality
Help families, faculty, and staff feel welcomed and appreciated.
Working with CBA staff, this team welcomes new and prospective families, recognizes our educators and colleagues, and connects families with opportunities to support school life.
Projects might include:

  • Student Directory
  • Family Admissions Ambassadors
  • Coordinating in-school volunteers
  • Teacher Appreciation Week
  • Sunshine Cart

If you enjoy welcoming others, organizing volunteers, helping behind the scenes, or noticing the small things that make someone’s day, this could be a good fit.

3. Citizenship & Service
Help students and families put compassion into action.
This team creates opportunities to serve others, practice good citizenship, and build relationships with organizations beyond CBA.
Projects might include:

  • Food, clothing, or holiday gift drives
  • Earth Day service projects
  • Partnerships with local nonprofits

Whenever possible, students help identify needs, plan projects, and reflect on their impact, with adults supporting their ideas and participating alongside them. If you care about service, community partnerships, or helping students discover how they can make a difference, we welcome your involvement.

Have Another Idea? Let’s Hear It!

These three teams are just a starting point. Perhaps you’d like to host an astronomy night, propose an after-school club, build a lending library, or introduce CBA to a community organization. We welcome ideas to explore with school staff, including small projects and opportunities that fit different schedules.

How Much Time Do I Have to Give?
Whatever works for your family. Join a team, lead a project, help with one event, volunteer from home or at school, or share a skill or connection.
Small contributions matter, and availability changes. You are welcome whether you volunteer regularly, occasionally, or simply come to connect.
