Chesapeake Bay Academy (CBA) and Virginia Wesleyan University (VWU) held a ribbon cutting ceremony at CBA to name G. Robert Aston, Jr. Hall, on Saturday, October 5th. The naming recognizes the lasting contributions of G. Robert (Bob) Aston, Jr., Founder and Executive Chairman of TowneBank. Aston is a member of the VWU Board of Trustees and a supporter of both VWU and CBA. CBA Head of School Dr. Judy Jankowski, VWU President Scott Miller and Mr. Aston all provided remarks to gathered friends and colleagues.
“We are deeply grateful for Bob’s unwavering support for both CBA and VWU,” Dr. Jankowski shared.
CBA’s building is located on the east side of the VWU campus, adjacent to TowneBank Park, home of Broyles Field (VWU softball) and Perry Field (VWU baseball). VWU purchased the CBA building in June and executed a long-term lease back to the Academy.
CBA will continue to operate as a separate organization and a VWU Partner in Progress. This transaction has significant financial benefits for both organizations and will create a wide range of new opportunities – academic, athletic, and extracurricular.
“VWU is committed to serving the neurodiverse community, as evidenced by our recent announcement regarding VWU’s new Center for Career Development and Neurodiversity,” VWU President Dr. Miller added. “By further enhancing our relationship with Chesapeake Bay Academy, we look forward to expanding the many possibilities for collaboration.”
