Virtual Dive into Coral Restoration
Middle schoolers recently took a virtual dive with the Coral Restoration Foundation (CRF) to one of their restoration sites in the Florida Keys! Through this immersive 360-degree experience, students got a firsthand look at the daily work that conservationists do to preserve and restore coral species along the Florida Reef Tract. The experience allowed students to walk through a day in the life of a coral restoration scientist, showing the real hands-on efforts that go into saving one of the most biodiverse and important ecosystems on the planet.Students were able to witness the dedication and care that goes into every step of the restoration process, from tending underwater coral nurseries to carefully outplanting coral fragments back onto the reef. This kind of real-world exposure helps students connect what they are learning in the classroom to actual conservation science happening right in our own region. We hope this experience sparked some curiosity and excitement about marine biology, environmental science, and the many ways people are working to protect our oceans.
A special thank you to Dr. Tilak and CERTI for their collaboration in making this experience possible for our students!
